Getting Your Driver's License as a Foreigner in Korea

Learning to drive in a foreign country, like Korea, can seem daunting, but the process is surprisingly straightforward and significantly less expensive than in places like the UK. My journey to obtaining a Korean driver's license took about three and a half months and cost around $750 USD.
The first step is a mandatory three-hour classroom theory session. I chose Anyang Driving School, just outside Seoul, as they offered English lessons. This foundational class covers essential road rules and prepares you for the upcoming tests.
Next, you'll self-study for the theory test using a practice app. The theory test, a 40-question computerized multiple-choice exam, is available in English and takes place at a local Government driving center. I passed on my first attempt, thanks to diligent practice.
The third stage is the Driving Course Test, or Skill Test, on a closed course. This assesses fundamental manoeuvres like T-parking, hill starts, and emergency stops. Despite having four hours of lessons, I failed my first attempt at the T-parking, but passed on the second. The test is automated with English voice commands.
Finally, there are the on-road driving lessons and exam. My school provided scoring sheets and four routes to memorize, as the test involves only verbal instructions. With prior driving experience, these lessons focused on adapting to Korean roads and memorizing the test routes. The entire process, from theory class to receiving my license, was efficient and affordable. It's crucial to confirm if your home country recognizes a Korean license; fortunately, the UK does.
