2025.07.22 14:59If you're an Indian citizen like me and married to a South Korean citizen, then an F-6 visa is your official ticket to live together in South Korea.
The journey can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially with all the paperwork, cultural expectations, and language barriers involved.
Here's some tips and an honest guide to help you understand the F-6 visa process step by step.
✅ Eligibility & Key Requirements
Marriage must be legally valid both in India and South Korea, and registered in Korea. Relationship authenticity: You must prove your marriage is genuine through photos, chat logs, travel records, social media, etc. Language/Communication: Must demonstrate ability to communicate with your spouse via Korean proficiency or mutual language (e.g., TOPIK Level 1, Korean course completion, or living together where a shared language is used). Some exemptions apply if you have a child together or you’ve lived in the spouse’s home country for 1 year.
Financial requirements: Based on household size. For a 2‑person household, the Korean spouse’s annual income minimum is around ₩23.6 million (~ KRW 23,600,000) as of recent standards. Thresholds scale upward with household size (e.g. ₩30.2M for 3‑person, ₩36.6M for 4‑person).
Additional restrictions:
A Korean sponsor who has naturalized through marriage must wait 3 years after naturalization to sponsor an F‑6 visa.
A sponsor cannot support another foreign spouse within 5 years of a previous sponsorship.
Benefits & Future Path
With an F‑6‑1 visa you can:
Work in almost any sector in Korea
Access national health insurance and social support
Renew your visa or apply for F‑5 permanent residence after 3–5 years of continuous marriage and residency, and potentially apply for Korean citizenship afterward
