How to Pay Health Insurance in Korea (NHIS Guide)

2025.07.28 11:07In South Korea, the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) is mandatory for most residents, including foreigners staying long-term (over 6 months). NHIS covers a large portion of medical costs like doctor visits, hospital stays, prescriptions, and even some dental care.
Once you're registered under NHIS, you'll receive a monthly bill. Here's how to pay it:
1. Bank Transfer
You can pay your bill through a Korean bank account. Most banks offer automatic transfer services, so the monthly amount will be deducted automatically on the due date.
2. ATM or Bank App
Visit any ATM or use your mobile banking app to transfer the fee. Just enter the NHIS account number listed on your bill.
3. NHIS Website
You can also pay online via the NHIS website, though registration and Korean language skills are often required.
4. Convenience Store
Some bills include a barcode that allows you to pay at convenience stores like GS25 or CU.
💡Tip: Make sure to pay on time to avoid penalties. If you're unsure about your bill, visit a nearby NHIS office, they often provide English support for foreigners.
