Do’s and Don’ts While Holding a D-2 Visa in South Korea
We discussed dos in the previous part now focus more on Don't
❌ DON’T: Violate the Purpose of Your Visa
A D-2 visa is strictly for academic activities. Using it to work full-time, skip school, or engage in activities unrelated to your studies is considered misuse and may result in your visa being revoked.
❌ DON’T: Overstay Your Visa
Always keep track of your visa expiration date. If you plan to stay longer (e.g., for job seeking), apply for a D-10 visa or other appropriate status before your D-2 visa expires. Overstaying is taken seriously and will result in fines, possible bans, and an impact on future applications.
❌ DON’T: Travel Abroad Without ARC or Re-Entry Permit (if needed)
If you travel abroad while waiting for your ARC or during a visa extension process, consult with your university or immigration office first. In most cases, your D-2 visa will still allow re-entry, but it’s safer to get documentation in order.
❌ DON’T: Let Your ARC Expire
Just like your visa, your Alien Registration Card has an expiration date. If you're extending your studies, you must renew your ARC before it expires. Carrying an expired ARC is considered an illegal stay.
❌ DON’T: Ignore KIIP or Other Point-Based Programs (If Planning for F-2)
If you plan to apply for an F-2-7 visa later, participating in the Korea Immigration and Integration Program (KIIP) during your D-2 period can earn you valuable points. Ignoring these programs early on may reduce your chances later.

8일 전For D-2 visa holders specifically aiming for an F-2-7, at what stage of their studies do you think is the most beneficial to begin participating in KIIP, and are there alternative ways to earn points if KIIP isn't feasible?
