When I traveled to Korea for the first time in my life (Now residing here), one of the things I was most excited about was experiencing the famous K-beauty culture firsthand. From glowing skin routines to chic makeup looks, beauty is such a big part of everyday life in Korea. While I was there, I quickly picked up a few tips that not only helped me adapt but also made my skin feel amazing during the trip.
The first thing I learned is that hydration is everything. Korean women (and men!) focus so much on keeping their skin plump and moisturized. Since I was walking a lot around Seoul and sometimes spending time outdoors in places like the DMZ and palaces, my skin easily got dry. I started carrying a small mist spray in my bag, and it became a lifesaver. A quick spritz in the middle of the day made my skin feel refreshed instantly.
Another tip I picked up is the importance of sunscreen from "Olive Young". I noticed that Koreans apply sunscreen almost religiously, no matter the season. The sun in Korea can be surprisingly strong, and since sightseeing meant being outdoors for hours, I made sure to reapply my sunscreen throughout the day. It not only protected my skin but also helped me avoid dullness from sun exposure.
Of course, I couldn’t miss out on the famous sheet masks. Almost every convenience store sells them (but I would recommend you to buy from Olive Young), and they are so affordable compared to back home. At night, after a long day of exploring, I would put on a cooling sheet mask. It became my little ritual a way to relax while also giving my skin a boost.
For makeup, I noticed that the style in Korea is very natural light foundation or cushion compact, soft eyebrows, and a touch of lip tint. I loved how practical it felt, especially when traveling. Instead of carrying heavy makeup products, I just kept a cushion compact and a lip tint in my bag, which made touch-ups super easy.
Most importantly, I realized that self-care is part of the travel experience in Korea. Taking a little time for skincare each night not only helped me adjust to the new environment but also made me feel more connected to the local culture.
By the end of my trip, I felt like I wasn’t just traveling through Korea I was also bringing a piece of Korean beauty wisdom back home with me.
