D2 visa part-time jobs and internships

2024.09.12 18:26I wanted to share my experience about this because I think it might help some of us :) There are lots of part-time jobs options available for d-2 visa students. I myself used to work in a bar and cafe and convenience store. A few of my friends used to work at KBBQ places or some other restaurants in evening times.
Some people also work as a tutor at English Academies targeting Korean students/workers, but they can only do that if they're from an English speaking country. If they're from a country like Vietnam, Germany, or Mexico, they won't be able to work legally as a part-time English teacher.
Depending on your TOPIK level your total number of working hours might also change. For example because my TOPIK level is 5, I can work up to 30 hours in weekdays and there's no working hours restrictions on weekends. So, if I want but I don't, I can work up to 48 hours on weekends.
When it comes to full-time internships, d-2 students can't do that during their semesters. They must do a part-time internship. This is because of their visa status. Students are here to study, not to work. So their priority should be the school not getting a job. (But we go to school to get a job? Yes, but you need to keep your visa status as a student until you graduate). You can do a almost full-time internship during the summer or winter breaks though (if you don't have a class :)
Regardless of the part-time job you are going for, you ALWAYS need to REPORT to the GOVERNMENT and start your working period only after you get permission from the government. I hope this was helpful to some people here. I know this website is quite new but I still wanted to share.
